Design #46: Peter’s “I Love Lois” shirt

Continuing expanding my cartoon base I began browsing and watching some episodes of Family Guy and this is my first design. This shirt is from the 3rd episode of season 1 of Family Guy called “Chitty Chitty Death Bang”. After Peter loses reservations at a restaurant that Lois wants to hold Stewie’s birthday at, Peter frantically tries to explain himself. In his somewhat biased recollection of the event, he is shown wearing this “I Love Lois” shirt in an attempt to gain sympathy from his wife. If you’re named Lois this may be a great gift to your husband.

Design #45: Don’t wake me I’m working

“Fat Man and Little Boy” is the title of episode 5 from season 16. In short, Bart begins a graphic tee shop with rude slogans and Homer starts fathering Lisa closer since he’s replaced by Bart as the breadwinner for the family. There’s also a Willy Wonka type character that commercializes Bart’s shirts. Needless to say this episode provides me much material for my shop as well since it’s focused around graphics tees. Here’s one that I don’t recommend wearing to work even as a joke.

Design #44: The Stonecutter logo

This one is from episode 12 season 6 called “Homer the Great”. If you’re even a bit of a Simpsons fan you’ll know this episode as it’s a bit unique and one of the highlights of the golden era. Homer joins the secret society called the Stonercutters and due to no effort besides a birth mark he rises from rank 908 to rank 1 nearly overnight. Eventually he goes mad with power (albeit with good intentions) and the Stonecutters rebrand themselves as the “No Homers” club. During the episode there are numerous variations of their logo, but I chose to design one based off Number 1’s hat in this case.

Design #42: I got toasted at Flaming Moe’s

”Flaming Moe’s” is episode 10 from season 3 and is a golden era classic. So much so that one of my best friends (and Simpson fanatic like me) considers it to be his favourite episode. In short, Homer invents a drink called the Flaming Homer, Moe steals it and makes a killing selling it, and Homer exposes that the secret ingredient is children’s cough medicine leaving Moe to fall from grace and go back to where he started like many cartoon story lines. At one point Bart walks in wearing this design and Homer gets mad. I loved the idea of the gag that a 10 year old kid got toasted at a bar while Moe would simply allow it, most likely for the sake of profits over morals.

Design #41: Springfield Police “Cash bribes only” badge

A while back I had posted a picture on my Instagram about some previous Simpsons drawings I made for my RedBubble shop. Someone in the comments asked for something related to the Springfield police department so I thought I’d look into it. While the Springfield police are shown quite often in The Simpsons, most of the time they’re zoomed out so their badges are just a small shape. After a little more digging, I found that in season 15 episode 16 called “The Wandering Juvie” the show does a close up of Wiggum’s badge with the motto “cash bribes only” so I felt it was a perfect fit.

Design #40: “ULCA” Yankee Cola

This design comes from episode 23 in season 10 called “Thirty Minutes over Tokyo”. Homer ends up getting digitally robbed and the Simpsons are low on funds. To get some tips, they attend a seminar hosted by Chuck Garabedian on how to live on a budget. One tip was to get last minute vacation trips and the Simpsons end up in Japan. Arguably this episode aired around the time the quality of the show began to decline, but I still found it had some great jokes. At one point the waiter at a restaurant called “America Town” wears a shirt with the gibberish “UCLA Yankee Cola” on it so I went ahead and made it for my shop. Fun fact, UCLA actually copyright striked my design so I made a “ULCA” mock one instead so no, ULCA is not a typo.

Design #38: Everyman

First appearing in season 21 episode 20 called “Homer the Whopper” Everyman is a superhero created by Comicbook Guy. His super power is that whenever he touches a superhero comicbook, he gains the abilities of the protagonist. In his first appearance, a movie adaptation is made with, of course, Home chosen to play Everyman. He gets a personal trainer and gets in shape, but eventually everything goes to hell as usual and he gets fat again. If you need a cheap esoteric shirt for a superhero at a Halloween party this is it.

Design #37: Me legs gone gimpy!

In season 5 episode 10 called “$pringfield (or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)” (by the way I love the nod to Dr. Stranglove in the title) Springfield is shown becoming a town on the verge of economic collapse. After a town hall is held, the citizens agree to legalize gambling and Mr. Burns offers to build a casino. This leads to the viewer finding out that Marge, until now basically a saint of a wife, has a vice and it’s a gambling addiction which ultimately leads to her neglecting her family. While Mr. Burns tours the boardwalk where his casino will be built, he has a flash back of him crippling an Irishmen. One of my favourite quotes to yell when I’ve hurt myself (doesn’t have to be a leg) is “Me ______s gone gimpy!” with said accent and therefor I absolutely had to make this.

Design #35: Show me your tie

In episode 17 of season 9 called “Lisa the Simpson” Lisa struggles with the fact that she is slowly losing her intelligence thanks to the Simpson gene. Ultimately this does not happen as the gene is only applicable to Simpson men. The side plot of this story is that Apu turns the Kwik-e-Mart into a Freak-e-Mart after finding Jasper frozen in one of his freezers. While he remains the star attraction, one of the side shows is the offensive baseball cap. As Rod and Todd are about to read it saying show me your tits, Ned covers their eyes and says it says show me your tie, it’s cute let’s go. I chose to recreate this product in a non offensive fashion.

Design #34: Genius at Work

Ah the classic episode from season 8 episode 14 called “”The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show”. From the golden era and contains so many great lines. In short Itchy & Scratchy show is dropping in ratings and they decide to add Poochie, voiced by Homer to the show and that does ultimately not work out. And how can forget how the Simpsons mirrored this by adding Roy living with them out of left field. When the voice actors are holding a conference and a nerd wearing this shirt is promptly put in his place.
