Design #83: Clobberella logo

In episode 6 of season 5 called “Less Than Hero” Fry and Leela apply a cream to their sores. Logically this cream gives them super powers. To fight crime in New New York, they adopt alter egos and Leela becomes Clobberella. Bender joins the team and modestly names himself Super King and he has no actual super powers. This one also makes for an easy Halloween costume!

Hans “Boo-urns” Moleman ghost magnet

This one sort of worked out, but not exactly how I had hoped. Regardless I still spent the time making it so here it is. This design is another original one I made for my RedBubble shop. It’s Hans Moleman as a ghost saying “Boo-urns” and if you’re a big Simpsons fan you’ll understand the reference. With the text bubble, I need to make a border and that resulted in a lot of negative space, so I put a pumpkin there to fill it out. I may revisit the design at a later date and try something else as overall I was satisfied with the space and pumpkin addition. Oh well.

Design #81: Bart the daredevil shirt

This one comes from way back in season 2 episode 8 called “Bart the Daredevil”. After the Simpson family go see Captain Lance Murdock. and Truckosaurus, Bart decide that he also wants to be a daredevil. After some mild stunts he decides to jump Springfield Gorge on his skateboard. This is the shirt he wears when he attempts to do so.

Shelbyville lemon eater magnet

After my first 2 coaster sets, I took a long break from tinkering with my laser cutter/engraver. Eventually I started back up and I was also wondering what else could I make besides coasters. Among other options I did also think of fridge magnets. So to add to my workshop I picked up a glue gun and magnet tape. As for the design, I converted the Shelbyville lemon eater vector design for my Redbubble shop into a laser file and hit print. I then stained it with the same stain I used for my other coaster sets. I was quite happy with the cut itself but did notice that doing line cuts left the design a bit hard to see with the chosen stain but it wasn’t too bad just a takeaway note to myself. I then put on the magnets and slapped it on my fridge. For me one of the best feelings was learning how to convert my already made vector designs into the laser readable file. The easy conversion opened up a big doorway for me as I’ve got many designs already created that I want to bring to life in stained wood form.

Design #79: Troy McClure’s Snake Sigil

In season 7 episode 19 called “A Fish Called Selma” we see Troy McClure revive his dwindling acting career when he meets Selma and plans to marry her to make headlines again. At the beginning of the episode, we see the family watching a movie called “The Muppets Go Medieval” where Troy is wearing this sigil on his chest. It’s crudely drawn in the episode and I kept it that way.

Magic the Gathering coasters

After my first attempt at laser cutting and staining, I decided to make another set but this time the symbols from Magic the Gathering. These are also simple stencils and I wanted to try out the image tracer on the laser cutter software. They didn’t end up perfect, but they were good enough for me back then so I stained them and put them up on my Etsy shortly after my Witcher set. These too sold so I was quite excited. After I completed these though, I took a years long break from playing with the laser cutter as life generally got in the way. But as mentioned, I did get recently back into it and will be posting those soon.

Design #78: Comicbook guy’s “Alien Biopsy” shirt

This one comes from season 10 episode 9 called “Mayored to the Mob” when Homer becomes the personal bodyguard of Mayor Quimby. Homer takes the kids to Springfield “Bi-mon-sci-fi-con” and we see Comicbook guy wearing this shirt. That’s all I got. Oh and guest appearance from Mark Hamill.
